So yesterday, the Mrs. and I went down to San Deigo, to the closest Little Guy trailer dealer to us. A 3 hour drive or so, but worth it…
We were able to check out a pretty good sampling of Little Guy tear drop trailers, including their Silver Shadow line that we were originally very interested in. Over the past few weeks though, their website really made me think that alot of their options and accessories were available for the Little Guy line of trailers, and not the Silver Shadows. I was starting to think we were going to have to forgo the retro look we love so much, in favor of getting a more robust trailer and options/accessories.
Much to our delight though, Mark down at LittleGuyTrailers.com was full of answers to our plethora of questions! We talked about a few specifics we wanted, like a receiver on the rear of the trailer for a bike rack to mount to. We also had a good chat about the 6-wide Sport trailer (which he did not have in stock). I thought this would be a good option as it would also double as a scooter trailer for getting them to/from the dealer and around Socal for scooter gtg’s. What I couldn’t realize from the photos online, without first seeing a 6-wide trailer in person, was how LONG this trailer would have to be! It’s just way too much to handle, and for the most part I don’t think we’d be taking the Vespa’s along often enough to justify the extra length and weight.
So taking the Sport platform out of the equation, and confirming we could have a receiver installed on one, we freed up our sights to the Silver Shadow line again. Oh the retro goodness. Jumping inside a 5-wide trailer, we found there was plenty of room length wise for the both of us, and there should be enough for even the dogs to snuggle up inside too. The big bonus would be that we get a “kitchen” setup at the rear of the trailer, which the LittleGuy line does not have. The have one large shelf but, when the back of the trailer is open, the inside is not sealed, which would let air, and other “items” in and out of the sleeping area unexpectedly.
We ran the numbers, and we were happy with the package Mark setup for us (included getting a hitch on our Element, and the receiver installed on the rear of the trailer), and we’re going to see if it pans out to be something we want to pull the trigger on. I mean duh, we WANT to, but I guess we have to make sure it’s really the right timing for it.
If it is though… be prepared for the photo and blog onslaught!
