So, the next several years will be a long agonizing wait, until we’re ready to make the fulltime RV lifestyle jump. We have things that push the timing that far out that are out of our control, but we’re more than happy to be patient and continue planning, researching, dreaming, and preparing. However…Travelling is something we’re really just not ready to totally walk away from between now and then. So far, for our camping trips last year, and some of the little day jaunts we’ve taken this year, it’s been a little inconvient having such a limited range, and requireing time to clean and pack the car before departure. Really eats into travel time, making that ‘reasonable’ range even smaller.
So we’ve decided one of the earlier versions of our plans incorporated not a straight jump to a Class A like we plan for the future, but something between nothing and that. Since trading in one of the Hondas a) doesn’t make alot of sense in the economy, and b) would just be insane because we love them, we’ve decided to scale our plans for a pop up tent trailer back just a notch and put them on the table again.

We’re going to be grabbing a tear drop trailer in the very near future. With the OK from the apartment management to put it one of our spots in the basement garage, all we’ll need to do is pay for a city parking permit for my Element to be on the street infront of the building. Not too difficult to swing, nor that expensive in the grand scheme.
Benefits? Pre-packed, no-setup-required shelter, ready to travel at a moments notice! It should be light enough, even packed with the gear for the E to tow safely. With no packing of the Honda required, just coming home and hooking up cuts down on alot of prep time, which gives us more time for driving instead of preparing to drive. With no setup required for tents and such (though the option will remain as we’ll keep one packed for the kids and friends should they choose to tag along!), we could arrive, move a few boxes to the Honda, and go right to be safe, dry, and warm/cool. This means, we can travel later, without much worry of being up until 2am cursing at tent poles. Yey!
So. Now we just have to toss around color choices, options, and then plan a break-in trip to Cachuma, where we’re on familiar territory. Or maybe we’ll just stab out further into the California highway wilderness on it’s maiden voyage, who knows. You’ll just have to check back to find out, right?
